Welcome
SMART Lab İEU is the İzmir University of Economics branch of the Space Magnitude Associations Research Team (SMART Lab), established in 2018 to investigate how the human mind represents and processes associations between magnitude and space. Founded within the Psychology Department Laboratory at the university, the lab operates as an active research unit supporting experimental research and student training.
Research conducted at SMART Lab İEU focuses on spatial–numerical associations (SNAs), the SNARC effect, magnitude processing across domains (e.g., number, emotion, size), embodied and contextual influences on spatial mapping, and the cognitive mechanisms underlying magnitude representation. The lab integrates experimental psychology, cognitive science, and quantitative methods to address fundamental questions about how spatial reference frames shape mental representations.
Beyond research production, SMART Lab İEU provides an academic training environment for undergraduate and graduate students, offering opportunities for research assistantships, methodological training, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
